Steamed vegetables with cheese sauce

Cheese sauce over a selection of vegetables makes a tasty side dish or light meal.

Steamed vegetables with cheese sauce

Serves 4

Cheese sauce:
2 Tbsp canola oil
3 Tbsp flour
2 cups milk
1 cup grated cheese
Pinch salt
White pepper to taste

 

Heat oil in saucepan and add flour.
Stir and cook for approximately 1 minute.
Add milk in small amounts, mixing until smooth after each addition.
Continue until all milk has been added.
Return to a low heat and bring to a simmer, stirring often. The sauce should be smooth and thick.
Stir through grated cheese.
Season with salt and pepper.
Serve with steamed, blanched or boiled vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots.
