Eating more vegetables

Good health can be maintained by eating fresh vegetables every day. However, it can be especially difficult to convince children of these facts. Can children enjoy vegetables? Yes! See Vegetables for children for some great suggestions and advice.

The Recipe section on this site offers more delicious ways to make vegetables a part of your lifestyle. Statistical information on consumption, spending and the cost of not including vegetables in your diet, can be found on the Facts section on this site.

Eating vegetables = good health
Research has proved that people who eat vegetables are less likely to suffer from lifestyle diseases. Eating vegetables is like an insurance policy towards good health. Colourful vegetables are jam-packed with many of the nutrients, minerals and phytonutrients (fight-o-nutrients) that your body needs to maintain good health and energy. Vegetables also protect against many lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

Each colour group contains a range of beneficial compounds and phytonutrients. Ensure you get the variety your body needs by eating vegetables from each of the colour groups every day. When given a choice between a sweet or a carrot, most children (and adults) will not choose the carrot. However, most children will happily eat the carrot if there is no choice. Try other raw vegetables as well.
