Cheese sauce to serve with steamed vegetables
Cheese sauce served over a selection of vegetables makes a tasty side dish or light meal.
2 Tbsp canola oil
3 Tbsp flour
2 cups milk
1 cup grated cheese
white pepper, to taste
Heat the oil in saucepan and then add the flour.
Stir and cook for approximately 1 minute.
Add milk in small amounts, mixing until smooth after each addition.
Continue until all milk has been added.
Return to a low heat and bring to a simmer, stirring often. The sauce should be smooth and thick.
Stir through grated cheese.
Season with salt and pepper.
Serve with steamed, blanched or boiled vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots.
