WITT winners1 300x197

This year we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the prestigious Nestlé Toque d'Or competition, which is recognised as the most prestigious student cookery cookery and food service event. Teams comprised of two chefs and one front of house restaurant service student compete at a regional final before being selected for the final which was held in Auckland on the 30th of July. The 10 teams from throughout the country had battle against one another in a live kitchen with hundreds of spectators to serve up an entrée, main and desert to their hungry guests. In the end, there could only be one winning team and they were Abbey Warner (chef, in the middle of the photo), Nerys Whelan (chef, on the left in the photo) and Genevieve Lysaught (front of house, on the right in the photo) from the Western Institute of Technology Taranaki (WITT).

The girls served up a starter of Akaroa Salmon with Asian greens, a main of New Zealand Beef Sirloin with butternut velvet, glazed baby fennel and turnip, New Zealand Oxtail and onion hotpot with smoked whiskey jus. Followed up with a dessert comprised of chocolate and beetroot brownie.

Vegetables.co.nz would like to congratulate all of those who entered and made it to the finals in Auckland. The medals were given out as follows:
