Encourage healthy eating

Kids will make good choices, taking vegetables and fruits over less nutritious foods when given the chance. Encourage healthy eating by creating a supportive environment and model healthy eating.

Involving children in shopping is one way to get them interested in vegetables.

Toddlers – when at the store, talk about the names, shapes, colours and sizes of vegetables.

Preschool – have them help put items in bags, count the items and spell the names of the vegetables.

Primary school – talk about how the different vegetables are grown and which vegetables are used in other cultures. Get them to choose a new vegetable to try.

Visit the select a vegetable pages to find out more about specific vegetables.
