Parsley and tablespoon 1 Tbsp parsley and 1 cup cauliflower - how do we measure these?

Learning to read recipes opens up many exciting dishes from different countries and using different ingredients. Recipes have been developed and tested and need to be followed carefully.

Learning how to measure ingredients is the start to a successful result. Understanding what measuring cups and spoons are, and how they are different to other spoons and cups is very important.

  • 1 Tbsp means one tablespoon and 1 tsp means one teaspoon. Measuring spoons are not the spoons you eat with, but special ones for cooking with; there are 3 tsp in 1 Tbsp.
  • To measure parsley, first chop the parsley and then fill the right sized measuring spoon, in this case the tablespoon.
  • Measuring cups are also different to cups you drink out of. Usually a set of measuring cups includes 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 cup.
  • To measure a cup of cauliflower, slice the cauliflower into small florets (pieces) before measuring.
